18-year-old Timothy Shell Jr., from Union Springs, AL, was arrested on June 8, 2025, for the murder of 16-year-old Jamiyah Grant. Grant was shot on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Bandy Park just after 8:30 p.m. and later died at East Alabama Medical Center.
The initial investigation revealed there was an argument between a group of people just before the shooting. It is unknown at this time what the argument was regarding. When officers arrived, they discovered Grant suffering from a gunshot wound. It appeared that after being shot, Grant attempted to drive away and struck another vehicle.
Shell was identified as the shooter and arrested by Opelika Police Detectives on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
