Gunfire rang out Friday night during halftime of the Lanett at Lafayette High School football game.
According to officials and witnesss, it happened across the street from the stadium on Alabama Avenue East. Referees said they heard gunshots and a car screeching around halftime. Other witnesses reported seeing a vehicle speeding away from the scene.
“On September 19, 2025 at approximately 8:30 P.M., officers with the Lafayette Police Department along with Lafayette EMS, were dispatched to the corner of Alabama Ave East and 7th street NE in reference to a male that had been shot.
Upon arrival, emergency personal located a 42-year old black male who had succumbed to his injuries at the scene”, said LaFayette Police Chief Christopher M. Trice.
The Lafayette Police Department’s Investigations Unit is investigating the incident. One subject has been arrested relating to the shooting. Also we would like to thank Chambers County Sheriffs Department, Lanett Police Department and Valley Police Department for their assistance.
