Derek Scott Letson, age 49, of Valley, Alabama, passed away on September 9, 2025. He was born on August 11,1976 at Lanier Hospital to Beverly and Rusty Letson.
He was a 1994 graduate of Valley High. After completing high school, he worked at Knauf Fiberglass for 16 years. He later pursued an Associate’s Degree from Southern Union State Community College in 2013, where he excelled in macroeconomics and microeconomics and competed in state competitions. He later worked for Dollar General and The City of West Point.
Derek was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed his role in helping with the media during the worship service. Derek will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to bring laughter to others. He loved hosting family gatherings, always finding joy in entertaining everyone from the youngest to the oldest. One of his favorite pastimes was to go fishing. He was an enthusiastic Auburn University fan and loved cheering for the Tigers in all areas of sports. At home, Derek enjoyed watching Jeopardy! This simple pleasure highlighted his intellect and led the family to memorable quality times in the evenings.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Misty; son, Parker; daughter, Anna Belle; parents, Beverly and Rusty Letson; sister, Layla (Jason) Ferrell; brother, Jacob (Jade) Letson; mother-in-law, Kathy Hughey; sister-in-law, Christy (Bryan Poe) Goss; brother-in-law; Brian Hughey; sister-in-law, Michell (Brian) Garsee, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Helen and Russell Letson and maternal grandparents Anna Paul and Ethridge Overton.
Funeral services for Derek will be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Alabama. Interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens. Pastor John Dye will officiate. Derek’s family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
