Post: Valley Files a formal Request with the ALDOT for Fob James/29 Intersection Traffic Study

Local residents Travis Carter and Donald Lancaster addressed the Valley City Council in regards to the need for a crossing signal at their meeting in city hall on Monday evening of this week. Carter explained why he is seeking a pedestrian crossing signal to be put back in place at the intersection of US Highway 29 and Fob James Drive.

“For some reason when they repaved 29 last year they took that crossing down. So I called Mike Britton who works with the permitting department down there in Auburn. He said ‘let me check on it, I will get back with you’. He spoke with the engineer in Alex City, he said he didn’t think it was warranted to have a signal there. Mike called me back and told me that. The engineer did say that if the City of Valley asked for a study to be done, the state would do a study to determine whether it was needed.”

Potential risks to public safety was a concern that Carter further elaborated on.

“The church, New Dimensions, they purchased this property back in 2021. They have a large gathering there. I have seen there on Sunday, they have a ton of people out there crossing.

Later on in the meeting there was a consent agenda which was approved with a single motion that included the following; confirming the cost of abatement at 1609 31st Street, appointment of additional election officers for the municipal election, public consumption of alcohol for a festival celebration and music night volleyball club as well as the acceptance of a five year paving plan for Valley  streets.
