March 3, 1931 ~ October 11, 2025 (age 94)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carl Dewey Evett, 94. He departed this life on October 11, 2025, at Lanier Skilled Nursing facility, after a few weeks of declining health.
Carl was born in 1931 in Fort Payne, AL, to Dewey & Goldie Evett. He graduated from Dekalb County High School. He was a Corporal in the US Army from 1951-1953, and served as a medic in the Korean War.
Carl was employed as a loan officer at Citizen’s National Bank for 27 years. After retirement, Carl returned to become branch manager of their Fairfax location. He enjoyed working as a DJ at WOAK (90.9 FM) Christian Radio in Lagrange, GA, for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Rome, GA, and later West Point, GA.
He was faithful in his church life. Carl was a member of Plant City Baptist Church for many years, where he served as a Deacon, assistant choir director, member of the finance committee and longtime member of the choir. In later years, he attended Lanier Baptist Church until his health declined.
Carl lived independently for many years in West Point, GA. Carl devoted his life to caring for his beloved son, Greg, until his passing at the age of 65 in May 2025. He was a car enthusiast and house flipper in his younger days. He collected antiques and memorabilia, and enjoyed walking through antique stores and yard sales, and his morning drive to get McDonald’s coffee.
He loved spending time with his family. Sunday dinners, birthday parties, and holiday gatherings gave him the opportunity to reminisce about his childhood and days gone by. During his last 5 years, he enjoyed having his grandson play guitar as he sang old songs he was to pass on to future generations.
A long life, well-lived, he will live on in our hearts. Carl is survived by his daughter, Susan Hale, of Cusseta, AL; great-grandson, Shiloh Gearhart, of Cusseta, AL; grandson, Matthew Foster (Amber), of Opelika, AL; granddaughter, Alexandria Taylor, of Valley, AL; Hunter Duncan (Jared) & Rory, of Opelika, AL; Blake Landers of Opelika, AL; and his little brother, Rollette Evett of Trion, GA; a host of nieces and nephews, and special ex son-in-law, Fred Foster, Jr., of Valley, AL.
The family would like to thank Dr. Arvind Kamath for his compassionate and exceptional care as Carl’s primary care physician for many years. The family would also like to thank Dr. Kamath’s staff, Dr. Mona Bakshi, the staff at Lanier Nursing Facility, Valley Pharmacy (Angie Moore, Craig Moore, John Minter), and Compassus hospice for their kindness and care in his final days.
