Post: Barbara “Bobby” Alice Terry Wingo Obituary

January 11, 1929 ~ June 13, 2025 (age 96)

Mrs. Barbara “Bobby” Alice Terry Wingo, 96, of Valley, AL passed away at Fellowship Hillside in Lagrange on June 13, 2025. Bobby is survived by her three children Terry (Resha) Wingo of Madison, Al, Pat (Beth) Wingo of Johns Creek, GA and Millie (Robert) Qualls of Simpsonville, SC; four grandchildren, Jody Wingo, Anna (Michael) Mercer, Mallory (Jason Self) Wingo and Hannah Wingo; four great-grandchildren, Presley Self, Emmy Mercer, Leah Mercer and Canyon Self; two sisters, Marilyn Stokes and Emily Cosby Winslet (Hoyt); Sister in law, Shirley Terry Carson, Cousin Debbie Morgan Williams (Randy) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bobby was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Cecil Wingo, her beloved granddaughter, Katie Qualls and her brother, Richie Terry.

Bobby was born on January 11, 1929, in Langdale, AL to the late George Thomas Terry and Allyne Elizabeth Bohler Terry. She was a graduate of Valley High School class of 1946, attended the University of Alabama and Auburn University and taught kindergarten throughout Valley, Lanett and West Point for 46 years before her retirement. She was a member of Shawmut Methodist Church where she held leadership roles over many decades.

Bobby enjoyed spending time with her large close knit family, her sisters, and cousins at annual reunions and informal gatherings. She also loved her church family and close neighbors on 33rd Street in Shawmut, where she lived for 69 years. A lifelong reader, Bobby was still reading 3 or 4 novels a week well into her early 90s.

A special thank you to the staff of Valley Park Manor and to all of the people at Fellowship Hillside in LaGrange for the wonderful support. We want to especially thank all of the people from Chattahoochee Hospice who cared for Mama with love and compassion.

A memorial service will be held for her at a later date to accommodate family members traveling in from out of town.
