HUNTSVILLE- Last Tuesday, former Chambers County Sheriff Sid Lockhart closed out his illustrious law enforcement career in grand style. At a banquet held at the Westin Hotel in Huntsville, Lockhart was named the 2023 “Sheriff of the Year”.
“In 2014, the members of the Alabama Sheriffs Association created the Robert D. “Bobby” Timmons Sheriff of the Year Award to be granted to an active, supernumerary, or retired Sheriff in good standing who has exemplified outstanding service and heart above and beyond the scope of his office. The Association members selected Chambers County Supernumerary Sheriff Sid Lockhart as our 2023 recipient of the “Sheriff of the Year” Award. I personally cannot think of any better suited for this Award than Sheriff Lockhart”, Alabama Sheriffs Association Executive Director Jimmy Lambert
“Sheriff Lockhart had an outstanding career in law enforcement, to which he dedicated his entire life. He was first elected Sheriff of Chambers County in 1995 and retired in 2023. Sheriff Lockhart has served on numerous committees within the Alabama Sheriffs Association and, in 2009, was elected to serve as President. He has devoted many hours to supporting the Sheriff’s Association, Alabama Peace Officers Association, and other law enforcement organizations.
Sheriff Lockhart is a true Sheriff of his community. He has participated in rodeo events and other fundraising activities for his community. His cook team has been recognized across the state as one of the premier providers of quality food at many charitable events. He and the cook team have been instrumental in supporting the Alabama Sheriffs Association’s Legislative Reception as well as several sheriff’ conferences.
Sheriff Lockhart understands what it truly means to be a Sheriff and, in doing so, has been an inspiration to Sheriffs personally and a mentor for many sheriffs over his four decades of service”, added Lambert.
