Jackie Knight “Jack” Yates, age 71, of Lanett, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

Born on May 18, 1954, in Langdale, Alabama, Jack was the son of the late Julian “Jack” and Mary Yates. A proud United States Marine, Jack carried the spirit of “Oorah!” throughout his life—his service was a source of immense pride and a reflection of his unwavering dedication and strength.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mike Yates, his son Thomas Julian “TJ” Knight Yates, and his granddaughter Ashlee Nicole Walden.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Rosemary Yates; his daughter Leslie Yates Walden (Jonathan); his sister Patsy Estes; and his bonus children Crystal Torres (Derick), Noel Torres (Emma), Valarie Agosto (David), and Tony Velez (Daphne). He was a proud grandfather to Gavin Walden, Brayden Knight Crowe, and Kolbin “Ky” Yates, and a cherished uncle to Amanda Meadows (Scott), Ashley Jackson (Andy), and Christen Estes. He also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews, a host of bonus grandchildren, and his lifelong friend Tim Reed (Belinda).

Jack worked tirelessly as a truck driver for many years, driven by his deep love for his family and his commitment to providing for them. He found joy in the simple pleasures—spending time with loved ones, doting on his grand pups, dancing around the house, and fishing with his best friend.

Later in life, Jack embraced adventure and love, moving to Chicago, Illinois, to be with Rose, the love of his life.

Jack will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and quick wit. His lighthearted nature brought laughter and lasting memories to those around him. In his final moments, he offered comfort with the words “Let it Be,” leaving his family with peace and the assurance that he was ready to journey onward.
