Sara Ann Smith, lovingly known as “Nana,” passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in West Point, Georgia. Born on February 3, 1945, in Troup County, Georgia, she lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Sara Ann deeply loved her children: son, Tracy Smith; daughter, Misty Champion, and her husband Frank. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren: Ashley McGowan, Brittany Brown and her husband Kevin, Jordan Trey Andrews Smith, Mary Beth Fuller, Mady Fuller, Chandlor Champion and his wife Langley, Cooper Champion, and Carson Grace Champion. Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Jordan Gene Andrews Smith and Cathy Hamblin. She also held a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews.
Family was everything to Sara Ann. She cherished the time spent with her brother, Sammy Morris and his wife Sandra, and her sister, Barbara Long and her husband Sam. Among her beloved extended family were Leah and Alvin McCarley and Heather Smith, who brought her joy and comfort throughout the years.
Known as “Nana” to many beyond her own family, Sara Ann dedicated her life to nurturing others. She touched countless lives through her work at Springwood School’s Daycare, Shawmut Baptist Daycare, and the nursery at Lanett First Baptist Church. Her gentle spirit and loving nature made her a beacon of light to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Sarah Morris; her brothers, Billy Joe Morris and John Albert Morris; her sister, Susie Fincher; and her husband, Gerald Ray Andrews Smith.
A celebration of Sara Ann’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 2:30 PM (EST) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, with Pastor Ronnie Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Marseilles Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 PM (EST) at the funeral home.
