On Tuesday, Lanett voters headed back to the polls in the runoff election for mayor, council District 2, and District 3 school board.
The incumbent Jamie Heard will return as mayor, garnering over 63% of the vote, defeating challenger Randall Aikens 906 to 540.
“Tonight, I stand before you humbled, grateful, and filled with hope for the future of our great city.
First, I want to thank God for his grace and strength throughout this journey. To my family, church, campaign team, and every volunteer who knocked on doors, made calls, and stood with me, this victory belongs to you as much as it does to me.
To the citizens of Lanett, thank you for trusting me once again to serve as your mayor. You have given me the honor of continuing the work we’ve started, and I do not take this responsibility lightly.
I also want to acknowledge my opponents in this race. They, too, love this city, and their voices and ideas have made us stronger. I look forward to working with them and every member of our community, because progress requires all of us, not just one”, said Heard.
As for the District 2 council seat, Krisse Story won a close race over Teresa Booker-Woody, 175-168.
In the District 3 school board race, Leilani Rudd defeated Johnny Wood 322-193.
Canvassing for the official votes will take place at Lanett City Fall at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected will take place during the 6 p.m. EST. council meeting on Monday, Nov. 3rd.
