Post: Opelika man arrested for identity theft, possession of a forged instrument

AUBURN, Ala. – On Sept. 17, 2025, Auburn Police arrested Zachery Keith Willis, age 24, from Opelika, Alabama, on felony warrants charging him with identity theft and possession of a forged instrument third degree.

The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving a call reporting a forgery in progress near the 2800 block of East University Drive on Sept. 17. A complainant from a business reported that a suspect was attempting to conduct a transaction with a forged check.

Responding officers stopped the suspect as he was leaving in a vehicle and identified him as Zachery Keith Willis. After further investigation, Willis was arrested for identity theft and possession of a forged instrument third degree. Willis was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $6,500 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
