CHAMBERS COUNTY – LaFayette, Lanett and Valley all three held municipal elections Tuesday. These results are unofficial and will be canvassed and made official on Sept. 2nd.

In LaFayette, Incumbant Mayor Kennth Vines won the position of Mayor, beating out his opponent Terry Mangram. Vines received 334 votes and Mangram received 228.

In District B there will be a runoff on Sept. 23nd for District B. Kim Langley received 65 votes, Andrews Vines received 52 and Nell Finley received 46.

The run-off will be between Langley and Vines, who made news earlier this month when he was charged on multiple misdemeanor counts related to Alabama’s ballot harvesting laws after investigators say he illegally collected and mailed in absentee ballot applications for voters in his district. Vines has denied the allegations.

“I’ve been falsely accused. Around 60 people in my district applied for absentee ballots and needed assistance with the applications — not the ballots themselves. They signed their own applications. I brought them blank applications, and they filled them out. I did assist some with answering questions, which I am allowed to do. I also prepared the envelopes”, said Vines in an interview with WRBL’S Elizabeth White.

In District D, Charlene Story won the election for the District D seat taking 72 votes. Ebony Askew received 62 votes and Brandon Brooks received 4.

Districts A, C and E were unopposed and were not on Tuesday’s ballot.
