In a big-time cross-state showdown between powerhouse teams, the Chambers Academy Rebels opened their season with a hard-fought 14-13 loss to visiting Starkville Academy from Mississippi.
The Rebels had possession at the end of the game with an opportunity to win it, but a potential game-winning field-goal attempt just missed.
Chambers Academy also lost its season opener to Starkville in 2024 before ripping off 12 straight wins and capturing a second straight state championship.
Chambers Academy will try to duplicate that feat this season, beginning with a road win over Hope Christian this Friday.
The Rebels surged to a 13-0 halftime lead on touchdown runs by Peyton Yerta and Hunter Andrews, however Starkville would respond with a touchdown late in the third quarter before taking the lead in the fourth quarter on a touchdown and an extra point.
