The National Weather Service has issued a statewide Winter Storm Tonight through Friday Night.
Precipitation will begin to enter the western portions of the state after 8 pm today and spread across all of AL between 12 am and 6 am Friday. Near and north of a Demopolis – Montgomery – Auburn line, up to 1 inch of snow and light freezing rain is forecast, making the Friday morning commute difficult to hazardous.
South of a Tuscaloosa to Alexander City to West Point Lake line and extending into far southern AL, a mixture of rain, snow, sleet, and light freezing rain is expected initially, with mainly snow and sleet north of this line. By noon Friday, all rain is forecast south of a Vernon – Birmingham – Auburn line, with a wintry mix farther north. It is possible temperatures could rise just above freezing somewhere north of I-20 briefly between 12 pm and 5 pm, but this remains unclear.
