On Tuesday, a crowd of supporters made their way to the Sportsplex in Valley to send off the Valley 10 U Alabama Boys State Baseball Champions as they got set to depart for the Diamond Youth World Series in Bossier City, Louisiana
Valley Mayor Leonard Riley addressed the boys and expressed his pride on behalf of the city.
“We just wanted people who aren’t gonna be able to make it to Louisiana to feel part of the team because they have been a part of our team since the district tournament and so we just wanted to really have something for everybody’s friends and family would be able to attend”, said Lindsey Whitehead mother of Hudson who plays for the champs and wife of Coach Justin Whitehead.
This team is special and most have been together since they were seven years old. We didn’t get anything the first year in the state tournament, we got the fifth the next year, 3rd last year, and they finally won state this year. These boys know what it means to put in the hard work, they know the goal which is winning the state tournament. The World Series is just the icing on the cake
The Diamond Youth World Series is a double elimination. The boys will play on Thursday in a pool game that will seed them and put the winners against the losers for bracket play.
The community united in prayer for a safe travel as the celebration concluded. Valley 10 U’s first game is scheduled for Thursday at 10 am CST. The tournament will be a double-elimination
