Some players just have a knack for the dramatics and apparently, LaFayette’s A’niyah James is that player as she sank a buzzer-beating jumper to defeat the Lady Rams on Friday 27-26 in front of her home crowd on Senior Night.
In a see-saw game, James came up clutch. The Lady Rams Kenda Watson hit two huge free throws to give Valley a 26-25 with 14 seconds left and had stopped the Lady Dawgs on their next possession, but unfortunately for Valley, the ball deflected off them before going out of bounds and giving LaFayette three seconds to work with. That would be three seconds too much for James and the Lady Dawgs.
On a night that LaFayette honored legendary coach and Alabama Sports Hall of Famer John T. Woody, you could feel the magic in the air.
“Surreal, that’s all I can say. It’s just surreal. What a night and what a perfect ending. This group of ladies are really playing well right now. They are building confidence and everything is beginning really sink in”, said LaFayette Head Coach Thaddeus Tucker.
LaFayette will be in action against Trinity Christian on Tuesday before tournament play next week. As for Valley, The Lady Rams will close out their regular season against Lanett on Thursday.
