The Lanett Boys Varsity Basketball Team is playing its best ball of the season and the timing could not be better as they wind down the regular season. On Saturday, the Panthers defeated Smiths Station 69-57 thanks to a fast 10-0 run to start the game.
The Panthers got good production, but none bigger than Jr. Bynum who had the night of his life with a career-high 32 points to lead Lanett.
Panther Head Coach Tay McCants loved his team’s energy, something he is expecting to see as the regular season concludes and post-tournament play begins.
Give credit to 7A Smiths Station who battled back after falling behind double digits early. Smiths Station would pull to within 6 with under 30 seconds remaining, but that is as close as it would get as Lanett iced the game with free throws to claim a hard-fought win.
Lanett closes out the regular season against Handley on Tuesday and at Valley on Thursday.
As for the Lady Panthers, Lanett defeated Smiths Station 49-28 on Saturday. Once again Coach Charlie Wiliiams’s team defense suffocated their opponents creating big turnovers for the Lady Panthers who converted in transition.
Freshman Nakeriona Heard led Lanett with 18 points. Lanett also got big play from their bench and utilized clutch free-throw shooting to put the game away late in the 4th quarter.
Lanett will close out their regular season against Handley on Tuesday and then at Valley on Thursday.
