Jake Whaley Jr., lovingly known as Jake, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, at the age of 87, just a day after his birthday. Born in West Point, Georgia, on June 15, 1937, he departed this world in Lee, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, friendship, and love.
Jake’s early life by the side of his parents, Jake Sr. and Cindy Whaley, was filled with the rich experiences that would shape the man he would become. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Martha Whaley, with whom he shared a profound and enduring love. His sister, Dorothy Flourany, and brother, Cecil Whaley, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Roberts of North Carolina, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and close friends who will deeply miss his kind and friendly nature. Jake’s faithful companions, his cat Rascal and his dog Socks, also mourn their beloved master.
Throughout his life, Jake held various professions, including barbering, working at the West Point Foundry, truck driving, and pulp wooding. An active member of the Free Masons Fraternity, Jake embodied the values of brotherhood and community service. His passions included hunting, fishing, and gardening, activities through which he often expressed his favorite saying, “Thing and part about it is.”
Jake’s robust laughter was a testament to his jovial spirit, and his reputation as a hardworking man was known to all. Those who knew Jake will fondly remember his incredible sense of humor, kindness, and generosity. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of many.
Funeral Services for Jake will be held on Thursday, June 20th, 2024, at 12:00 (EDT) at Reed Chapel and Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Marseilles Cemetery. Pastor Blake Alford will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EDT) at Johnson Brown-Service in Valley, Alabama.
