As EAST Alabama and West Ga. continue to brace for the wintry mix which began over around 330 am EST as well as sleet which transitioned to a light but steady snow, the northern part of Chambers County continues to feel the brunt of the winter mix.
We spoke to Chambers County Engineer Josh Harvill just after 8 am EST., who tells the Ledger that CR. 267 north of LaFayette near 5 Points and CR 268 near Standing Rock as well as CR 241 west of Welch are currently experiencing the biggest impact.
“Most trouble areas have since began to clear, a little slushy, but temp is above 32 in those areas and we expect noticeable improvements to most of the north end of the county over the next hour or 2. The exceptions are CR 278, CR 268, and CR 241 – these roads are still pretty snowed covered but as the temps continue to rise, these should become less of an issue as well”, added Harvill
the worst conditions appear to be north of a line from Union Hill to Fredonia. The further North you go (closer to Randolph line), the worse the conditions are. (Milltown, Abanda, Fredonia, Welch, Standing Rock – from Mt Hickory west to Welch) – everything south of that line seems to be ok, so far, but there are slick spots on some roadways developing (and could continue to until about 10am – after which temp will rise above freezing and we transition to cold rain), and some bridges are becoming slick .
Per Chambers EMA, Chambers County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 3:00 PM CST
