On 10/23/2024 at approximately 11:55 p.m. Opelika Police responded to the 3200 Block of Lafayette Parkway regarding a single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames. Officers used fire extinguishers to attempt to contain the flames as Opelika Fire arrived on scene. Once the fire had been extinguished, first responders located an unresponsive male inside the vehicle. The 44-year-old victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. An initial investigation indicates that the victim was traveling north on Lafayette Parkway when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit.
