On July 11th, 2024, Officers with the West Point Police Department responded to 1917 Highway 18, Loves Travel Stop about a semi-truck with a loaded trailer that had been reported stolen earlier that day in Forsyth County, GA, possibly attempting to get fuel at this location.
Officers arrived on the scene and located the stolen 2016 White Volvo Semi Truck and flatbed trailer that contained three JC Boom Tractors. Officers located the driver, Bilen Filiz, 44, of Dayton, Ohio exiting the store and placed him under arrest.
The Criminal Investigations Division arrived on scene and spoke with the owner of the company who reported the semi-truck and load stolen. They stated that Mr. Filiz’s employment was terminated the day prior. He returned the next morning and took the semi-truck and load without permission and had planned to sell everything before fleeing back to Ohio.
The approximate total value of the stolen property is $250,000.00.
Mr. Filiz has been charged with O.C.G.A. 16-8-7, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Vehicle), and received a $500,000.00 bond.
