LANETT- Last Thursday, newly appointed Lanett Police Chief Denise McCain was sworn in by Mayor Jamie Heard as family, friends, and colleagues looked on in a ceremony held at the Jane K. Farrar Center.
Among those in attendance were Chambers County Sheriff Jeff Nelson, Valley Police Chief Mike Reynolds, and West Point Police Chief Kevin Carter along with other members of their respective departments
Joining her law enforcement colleagues were members of the Lanett Council which included Councilmembers Ronnie Tucker, Tamalita Dunn, and Angelia Thomas.
“It’s going to be a challenge, but it’s also an honor to serve the community of Lanett. I promise to uphold this city and these officers to the highest integrity and ethical values. We are going to get a lot of training and we’re going to get a lot of updates, and we’re going to go into the 20th century and get a bunch of new officers hopefully hired soon”, said McCain.
The new Lanett Police Chief becomes the second female to hold the position.
McCain addressed staffing shortages that all police departments are going through.
“We are hiring. If there is anybody out there that can pass a physical, and background check let me know because we are in need of officers”, said McCain.
The Lanett Police Chief has already had an enormous impact on the community and volunteers at the Fuller Center as well as coaching the Lanett Soccer team.
